COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn to use trance and hypnosis in ways that are delightful and fun. Welcome to a hands-on course in Creative Trancework and Improvisational Speed Hypnosis instilling ways to improvise new techniques off the cuff in creative and extremely effective ways to use hypnosis for light entertainment, fun, and recreation . . . but with an understanding of applying powerful changework where appropriate within the same creative framework. This is a practical course in creative rapid improvisational recreational hypnosis techniques with a hands-on approach to mastering the skills presented. This course is appropriate for anyone with an interest in hypnosis – from the curious hobbyist to the professional. The methods presented can be adapted and applied in a very wide range of contexts: street, entertainment, sales, recreational fun, education, presentational speaking, and intimate or romantic relationships.

You will learn how to apply these adaptive methods in any location, any context, and within any trance opportunity. You will learn methods as well as the operators behind them that allow you to adapt to any situation and genuinely create new processes or techniques on-the-fly appropriate to the situation. These are the hypnosis methods that have been proven effective in walkabout trance street hypnosis, clinical hypnotherapy, entertainment hypnosis shows, club trance, educational contexts, and much much more.

Experienced and inexperienced hypnotists will find this course filled with powerful material that will take you to the next level of hypnotic skills and competence.

In addition to approaches to hypnotic inductions, you will learn approaches that allow you to maximize expectation and to engage and intensify a prospective trance partner’s imaginative involvement in order to ensure the success of your trance patter. You will learn and practice patterns and processes that are light and playful which can then easily be converted into full-on hypnotic phenomena. You will learn how to take something simple like a suggestibility effect and turn it into deep hypnosis in very little time. You will learn how to take any context and use it to create completely original inductions out of whole cloth, improvisational trance creation, instantly. These creative techniques can then be used very effectively in the clinic with your hypnotherapy clients or in the club or elsewhere for simple trance fun, or on stage as part of a hypnotic demonstration or all-out entertaining performance.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS SEMINAR?

We ask that participants come into the experience with an open mind and set aside any pre-conceived notions of how hypnosis is “supposed” to work. Let us playfully engage you in a model of hypnosis that provides you opportunities to engage your creativity in ways that allow you effectively guide trance partners into experiential hypnosis in new ways . . . with infinite possibilities available to you.

We start at the beginning with the fundamentals . . . participants will learn the Characteristics and Parts of Instant and Rapid Hypnosis Inductions, the real secrets that allow you to use any induction in a rapid or instant context. You will learn, practice, and master over thirty speed hypnosis techniques. If you have previous training in speed hypnosis, that’s fine. If not, that’s fine too. Either way, set aside your assumptions or prejudices as to what they should be like and just play with us as we introduce the operators and add in a dash of playfulness and a rather heaping helping of adaptability into the mix.

Those who have taken hypnosis trainings before will find an excellent fast-paced review but they will also find we jump into the creative, improvisational, material right away, while providing a solid foundation for those who haven’t had the pleasure of the experience before.

Both newcomer and returning veteran alike will find the course to be well within their comfort zones and pushing them into new territory very quickly in creative and playful ways.

Obviously, a program such as this course in Creative Trancework and Improvisational Speed Hypnosis is extremely adaptable, it has to be, that’s the whole point of the beastie. The key goal is to get folks up to speed and comfortable within the creative hypnosis mindset so that participants will be improvising new processes and inductions as quickly as possible . . . taking challenge tasks and jumping straight into the deep end of creative engagement of the unconscious mind and deep trance phenomena and more. The program is set as a modular building block approach so that material can be shifted and built upon as needed. All of the key basic components of the course orientation, philosophy, and technique will be covered in some way, although the specific order of presentation and coverage will vary depending upon specific participation. The modus operandi is to build upon solid foundations toward an endgame of playing with creative approaches.

To reiterate – because it’s important – participants are strongly encouraged to leave any preconceptions regarding what hypnosis is or isn’t or how it should or should not be performed at the door. Approach the activities as one would approach an adventure as a curious and playful child to truly enjoy and quickly master an initiation into a special world of wonder and creative joyful exploration and competence. Pretend that anything and everything is new to you and that every activity is a special experiment in manifesting new ideas . . . take on the concepts and play with them as if they somehow represent deep joyful truths . . . after the conference . . . after you’ve had a chance at so many wonderful opportunities, you can then debrief and decide which particular techniques or approaches work best for you and your style but at the beginning jump in and playfully enjoy and experiment with everything and more.

IMPROVISATIONAL CREATIVITY in HYPNOSIS

Get off on a full run and learn approaches to hypnosis that allow you to get in and get the job done while having a blast. Improvisational exercises will take experienced hand and beginner alike into new territory, while instilling a sense of comfort within the realm of the playful unknown, the world of the creative improvised hypnosis induction. SEQUENCING SUGGESTIBILITY EFFECTS AS INDUCTIONS

Learn a number of suggestibility effects – and why we refer to them as “effects” or “imagination games” rather than as “tests” – and how they can be sequenced into full on sessions based upon building complex suggestion contexts and compounding compliance and deep associations in ways that create delightful responses within full hypnosis. So many dismiss the classic suggestibility effects without exploring their full potential. Learn over twenty suggestibility effects and imagination games that can easily be converted into instantaneous hypnotic inductions. Learn sequencing patterns and how to structure sequences to create powerful waking hypnosis states that can then be converted into context-specific sessions. Discover how to take a simple single-dimension suggestibility effect and to create co-rider effects that transform it into something much more complex as well as deeply transformational while having a wonderful time.

INSTANT and RAPID INDUCTIONS

Learn a number of classic and contemporary instant and rapid inductions and how to adjust and adapt them to new situations and approaches. Learn the patterns and master how to do them through guided practice. Then learn how to create your own variations instantly and even how to create completely new and original hypnosis inductions off-the-cuff within any context. We will certainly be spontaneously developing and playing with creative unique variations of a number of classic speed hypnosis techniques, learning variations and adaptation strategies.

TRANCE DEPTH TESTING AND SEQUENCING

Adaptation of the Arons Scale as a measure of and tool for enhancing imaginative involvement.

HYPNOTIC GAMES

This is where things get very interesting indeed.

As a training tool, students in the seminar will learn several hypnosis learning games that are not only loads of fun but help accelerate mastery of the skills taught in the course. These games include Hypnotize Trancersize (random skill callouts that must be immediately performed), the Hypnotist Challenge Game (a creative game in which players must immediately create a completely new induction based upon a challenge created by another player . . . with very little time to act), Trance Train (players perform a series of hypnotic inductions – off the cuff – with different partners within the time limit . . . imagine yourself going down a line of ten people, performing ten different hypnosis inductions, from memory, within five minutes).

You will learn all of this and much, much, much more. Obviously, this is a very fast-paced and extremely comprehensive course. This is an intensive training in Creative Trancework and Improvisational Speed Hypnosis and as such requires clear concentration and full involvement on the part of students who must come ready to engage themselves fully in the process.

INSTRUCTOR:

The course is taught by Rev. Dr. Brian David Phillips, an internationally known and respected hypnosis practitioner, educator, author, and entertainer. Dr. Phillips is President of the Society of Experiential Trance and editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Experiential Trance. Dr. Phillips is the coordinator and chief instructor for the oldest English-language hypnosis and focused-trance practice group in Taiwan and is the owner and moderator of one of the largest online email discussion communities related to hypnosis and focused trance techniques. He has taught numerous workshops and seminars on hypnosis, focused trance, and experiential hypnosis in a variety of countries as well as a number of webinars (web-based seminars) on these and related subjects. Dr. Phillips is an associate professor at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, where he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses for well over two decades. Dr. Phillips uses rapid and instant hypnosis inductions routinely in his Waking Dreams Hypnosis Show. This is the only only ongoing entertainment comedy hypnosis stage show in Taiwan.

TEACHING METHODS:

This seminar relies upon a very fast-paced system of demonstration and practice. More than any other course, this workshop consists of demonstration, explanation, practice, practice, practice. It is NOT intended as a lecture or passive learning experience. It is an energetic program so students should come ready, willing, able, and eager to jump right in and run full speed ahead. The teaching methodology is very active. Students will learn through all of their sensory learning channels, particularly aural, visual, and kinesthetic . . . listening, seeing, and doing . . . as it is a practical applications competence course, there is a great deal of supervised “doing” with immediate and useful feedback. Typically, for each subject or technique, the training is within the following process model:

instructor briefs students on the topic,
instructor demonstrates technique with student volunteer,
the demonstration is then broken down into steps,
students then practice the technique several times with one another under guidance of the instructor with ongoing feedback,
class debriefs about experience and technique with performance notes from instructor,
students continue advanced practice (including homework for some techniques),
final debriefing with instructor. The course focuses upon competence and application of material.

This course, taught by Brian David Phillips, PhD, is approved for 8 Hours of CEU credit with the Society of Experiential Trance. No partial CEU credit will be awarded for non-completion.
