What do you get when you take some of the absolutely worst dialogue delivery in video game history and combine it with someone with a penchant for facial expressiveness?
You get some pretty awesome FACE ACTING, that’s what!
As the folks at geektyrant note:
“Be it shoddy translation, poor delivery, bad writing, or just annoying voicework (HEY! LISTEN!), there’s no denying that the early days of video games suffered from some poor voice acting. The good news? HansJamesMusicAOk re-enacts some of the worst in-game banter to a most hilariously satisfying end.
Fans of Sega will for sure be all about the first video as 90% of the games mentioned are Dreamcast originals, but other consoles get plenty of love in the following shorts.
Let’s not forget that voice acting wasn’t the only terrible part about early CD gaming, there’s also the awesomely bad low-tech scenes that accompanied it…”
So, let’s see what all the fuss is about:
FACE ACTING ONE
FACE ACTING TWO
FACE ACTING THREE
FACE ACTING FOUR
Christian Bale Freak Out Edition
Now, this all isn’t just about timing – and he does quite well – but it’s also about memory and character and delivery with the body . . . congruence between voice and face and body are important.
As odd as this might seem to those who are not actors, this is actually an absolutely wonderful exercise for actors who wish to specialize in character creation and presentation. Take it over the top and play with it.
Fun stuff.
All the best,
Brian
