It’s been awhile since I’ve put a new automatic drawing into the gallery . . . not awhile since I’ve done any, either recreationally or therapeutically, just a very long while since I’ve added to the gallery here. I decided to sit down with pen in hand and let the ol’ unconscious do a quick meditation on the thought of spirituality. The result is above . . . it was an interesting experience as the pen started creating a large flower then an eight pointed star within it with an eye within that . . . the original starting flower design and the eye are almost lost within the star explosion. Now, by the time it began the eight-pointed star within the eight petaled flower I knew what it was becoming but it was still nice to watch it unfold autonomically, an automatism with no conscious control. The flower is the flower of Inanna while the star is the star of Ishtar and the eye is the eye of experiential trance. For me, this is a very very positive image and holds particular spiritual significance related to personal questions in that regard so it’s a nice epiphany moment as one discovers the image the unconscious is unfolding indeed. A fuller sized version can be seen at http://public.fotki.com/briandavidphillips/hypnosis/automatic_drawings/ along with a very few other automatic drawings I’ve done over the years.
For those of you unfamiliar with automatic drawings, they are based upon ideomotor effect in which the subconscious moves muscles without the consciousness being aware of them so that it feels as if one’s hand is moving by itself, a dissociated feeling that can be quite eerie to some. I’ve been doing them for years, although I admit my artistic talent isn’t quite so strong consciously or unconsciously but it can have a wonderful therapeutic effect . . . see my Ideomotor Hypnosis and Psychic Hypnosis DVD sets for instruction on how to do your own automatic drawings or how to guide others.
All the best,
