Triathlon Deaths caused by Panic Attacks

David Brown writes in the Washington Post that there are solid indications that so-called mysterious deaths during triathlons may not be so mysterious after all as they could very well be linked to panic attacks brought on by the context of the event itself.

Panic attacks during triathlons tend to occur during the swim leg.

Most triathlon related deaths occur during the swimming portion of the event. A recent survey of the deaths so far this year in the US during triathlons found that eight of nine deaths occurred during the swim leg.

This would seem to indicate it’s a good idea for folks participating in triathlon or other mass and intense or extreme events should train the body but also condition the mind to deal with the stressors of the events themselves. Certainly, there are a number of simple hypnosis or trancework techniques that would be optimal for this sort of work in terms of building a focus and an emotional stress release valve that short circuits any negative emotional state before it occurs. Folks wishing the services of a competent hypnotist for this sort of work will find there are a number of experienced folks like myself who are well-versed in these sort of performance enhancement methods.

All the best,
Brian
