The Voice is the Anti-Idol as Far as Music Competition Shows Go

Lyndsey Parker posts an excellent discussion of just why The Voice is so engaging and why it really is in many aspects an Anti-American-Idol program, in a good way.

Her reasons range from the obvious focus on voice instead of looks – despite some critics calling the blind auditions a gimmick – to less obvious but quite substantial things such as an oppennes on The Voice to folks who are openly gay or who have alternative lifestyles and that the voting system is much more transparent without behind the scenes fudging that occurs on Idol.

Go read her piece at http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/422613/why-the-voice-is-the-anti-idol/ and see for yourself.

Not sure what The Voice is, here’s a nice promotional piece from the original Dutch show which breaks down the show’s unique format – a format that dominates in all of its markets.

We’ve enjoyed the show and look forward to next season.

All the best,
Brian
