Apocalypse N O W !

Well, so many folks worry about the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar . . . Dec. 21, 2012 . . . but . . . there’s a catch . . . a number of scholars claim that the Mayan Calendar is mis-converted to the Julian Calendar which has inherent errors. Those folks put the actual end of the Long Count as Dec. 21, 2010 . . . yep, a two year differential.

Since that date also has a whole bunch of really cool things going on . . . triple whammy, Winter Solstice plus Full Moon plus Lunar Eclipse . . . it makes some sense.

Many of the doomsayers claim that this is the end of the fifth or sixth (depending upon system of counting) age of Man . . . that is, human civilizations have come and gone . . . we spend thousands of years building things up and then an apocalypse wipes us out . . . we know we’ve had apocalyptic genetic bottlenecks in our past (one major one was 75,000 years ago when the human species went very quickly from millions of inhabitants on the planet to just a couple thousand – as genetic evidence has shown). Look at the new evidence being uncovered of human civilization being much older than previously thought . . . and it makes sense given our tool making and natural tendency to build things new as it’s unlikely we really did spend the bulk of our existence running about in the forest naked as previous theories claim. Too many of our ancient civilizations seem to have sprung up from nothing . . . more likely they were founded by survivors of this or that catastrophe. Of course, when Cayce’s pyramids rise from the ocean with their crystal computer archives we’ll know (although I’m betting on the pyramids of the Antartic finally being exposed once global warming melts their icy blanket . . . of course that also means flooding that wipes out most of the current coastal areas so good ol’ catch 22 damned if you do and damned if you don’t time). Or, not.

So, those of you looking for your own personal apocalypse . . . start now.

Or not.

Personally, I don’t think calendars mark endings in the way that some say . . . they mark new cycles and moving forward. We don’t have to go through an apocalypse in order for the next age of Man to begin . . . there are all sorts of really cool positive scenarios that might happen . . . then again, our closest living relatives are chimps and bonobos . . . bonobos have free love and all sorts of goodness going for them and we do share many of those characteristics . . . well, some of us do at least . . . but . . . we also share the war and murder and conniving and violence and prejudice of the chimp . . . and we do tend to be more chimpish in our history so maybe we are screwed.

Or . . . not. Just in case, take a few moments today and reflect on just how much of your life is as a bonobo and how much as a chimp and then look inside yourself and resolve to be more purposeful in your bonoboishness.

Go ye forth and be a bonobo . . . or, not. Best yet, be a human . . . but a really good one.

Then again . . . maybe the apocalypse is coming . . . and maybe it is earthquakes and volcanos and floods and general crappy dayishness . . . but . . . just maybe . . . our Alien Overlords currently have a fleet of flying saucers on their way to devastate our planet and enslave the survivors as menial labor and perhaps even as food. Maybe.
