3D Television Here but Not Here

Lorraine and I saw a Panasonic 3D TV and 3D Bluray player at Costco yesterday . . . however, no movies bundled to view the with the beastie and it looks like 3D content is not coming fast enough to make purchases of 3D equipment worthwhile for most folks. Actually, the situation seems to be worse than that . . . the idjit manufacturers and content developers are swapping short term gains with long term screwing of the market. Way too many of the all too limited crop of 3D movies coming out are locked into exclusive deals with hardware . . . so you won’t be able to get Avatar unless you get a Panasonic machine while another manufacturer has locked in another film . . . the content folks are doing this because of simple greed as they can make more money from the license fee than from actual content sales . . . but, in the long run it’s going to bite the industry on the ass as folks won’t buy a machine for one film if the other films are only available with other machines . . . instead of spurring sales, I suspect it’s going to kick ’em in the balls instead of the ass.

Sure, more films are on the way . . . but . . . that’s on the promise of more sets and more sets won’t sell if there aren’t sufficient films to warrant the hefty price tag.
