James Cameron slams Hollywood for shoddy 3D conversions

See http://www.breakingentertainmentnews.com/james-cameron-slams-hollywood/8886814 for the piece but while some may think that Cameron is being a bit of a stick in the mud and perhaps even a hypocrite as he slams studios for putting out inferior 3D conversions instead of shooting in genuine native 3D while he plans to release a 3D version of his own film Titanic.  However, he says shooting 3D is the best way to go.  He does not say that all conversions are bad . . . just the fast track cheap conversions used by some studio products.  Conversions can be done well, but they need time and money and painstaking attention to detail.  Some of the recent conversions were less than perfect.

Some studio 3D gambits to jump on the money train have been worse than awful.

For instance, the few minutes of Harry Potter done in 3D were very very poorly done.  The twenty of so minutes of Superman in 3D were poorly done conversions and the scene choices made little sense.

I have no doubt that Cameron would prefer native 3D footage for Titanic but if he does a conversion it will be painstakingly cared for.  The guy is Captain Anal Attention to Detail and that can be a good thing.

All the best,
Brian
