Inception Fun

Kaye, Lorraine, and I went to Inception tonight . . . very very good.  Kaye was on the edge of her seat the whole time . . . well, as were we all.  A number of the reviews I've seen noted that this film has been too confusing for many in the audience but we didn't get that at all.  It was pretty clear that it was dream within dream within dream from the get-go.  I guess as a hypnotist I'm just used to how the mind can morph our experience of reality, particularly since I'm no stranger to totems, lucid dreaming, and the like . . . or . . . perhaps most movie goers aren't really as bright as we might wish . . . probably a bit of both.

Folks who are surprised at the layers of this thing need to stop thinking of him as the Batman director (even if that particular Batman is the heady one) and remember he did Memento and Insomnia.  Sheesh, even The Prestige had layers to it.

BTW, I particularly enjoyed this film as I've been prepping some of my Dreamwalker and Shared Dreaming materials for a workshop on how to do some of the things portrayed in the film, albeit without the Hollywood special effects and A-list actor credits but with one's own mind. Synchronicity as I had been prepping a section on the use of totems today and there they were in the film used in a very similar fashion.  Nifty.

In any case, we highly recommend this film . . . with the caveat that you do need to pay attention a bit more than the average blockbuster . . . although, honestly, I didn't think it was all that difficult to follow and kind of have doubts about the critical faculties of those reviewers who are claiming it's too much for them to understand.  Granted, some of the critics who can't understand this thing are just plain ol' everyday stupid . . . being a film critic does not automatically mean someone is intelligent . . . but some of 'em are being a bit beyond lazy and others are making basic assumptions about the general intelligence of the movie-going public that may be a bit on the unforgiving (then again) . . . seriously, Inception is NOT that difficult to follow.  In any case, we really enjoyed it and would suggest that others give it a go . . . those of you who are into philosophy, criticism, linguistics, psychology, and hypnosis or the like might enjoy projecting the mind game of "how does this relate to my interests" or not as the case may be.

All the best,
Brian
