So, as anyone who has read this blog for any amount of time is aware, hypnosis can't be used to instantly and easily change a mild mannered milquetoast into a hardened criminal . . . governments spent a lot of money on finding out that as a Manchurian Candidate Maker, hypnosis really doesn't stack up to good old fashioned blackmail, sex, drugs, and plain ol' greed.
Well . . . scientists may have broken ground to eventually creating a device that will work even faster.
Nope, not drugs or microwave radiation . . . magnets.
A recent study found that by directing magnetic energy to particular locations in the brain, they were able to effectively suppress or turn off a person's moral center . . . see http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2010/03/11/0914826107 for some details . . . now, if only they can get a couple thousand folks to wear baseball caps with magnets secreted inside they may be in business . . . or not.
Interestingly, on the flip side of this is that the Shakti Helmet that I've written about before – and included Todd Murphy's fascinating lectures – also uses magnetic resonances directed at particular regions of the brain except for the purpose of creating god presence experienced among other cool effects.
Perhaps some day in the not too far distant future we'll all be buying magnetic headbands at the local 7-11 for various purposes (need to face an unpleasant situation and don't want to be bogged down by guilt or fear or hesitation, Morality BeGone is the headband for you while the folks interested in meaningful religious experiences can just pick up the God Be With You headband and those who want to play a practical joke on their annoying co-worker can pick up the Sinister Invisible Presence Behind You and to the Left headbands . . . get a bunch and have a over the shoulder glance paranoia party, oh what fun!
Seriously, this is fascinating research . . . no, I do NOT recommend sleeping with a bunch of magnets under your pillow just to see what might happen.
