My daughter Kaye is a fan of Vocaloid . . . an odd phenomenon in its own right.
Vocaloid is a program developed by Yamaha that is a voice synthesizer with music editor in which folks create song files that typically are music – original or otherwise – with voice. The voice is based upon lyrics typed into the program attached to the music and the program synthesizes the voice based upon a library of sounds. There are English and Japanese voices. The results sound like real singers and can be amazing.
If you do a search on youtube for vocaloid you will find hundreds of fanmade videos.
In fact, the program has become so popular that there was a live concert by one of the female voices – yes, a computer generated persona – with over 25,000 fans in attendance. Actually, "she" had a live band performing with her and she sang along. The production company had multiple transparent projection screens so she could move about the stage for an amazing illusion.

Kaye used to have a copy of the shareware version of the program but she had some difficulty with the Japanese interface. Evidently, there's a way to get an English interface so I imagine she'll give it another go another time.
