Here is the third lecture from the Video Lectures on Neurotheology by Todd Murphy ( http://www.shaktitechnology.com), associate member of Laurentian University Behavioral Neurosciences program, under the direction of Dr. M.A. Persinger . . .
ENLIGHTENMENT, the SELF, and the BRAIN
11 September 2008, 1 hour and 29 minutes
What happens in the brain when a person attains enlightenment? This talk offers an hypothesis. Using concepts in neurotheology developed by Michael A. Persinger (inventor of the God Helmet), Todd Murphy (inventor of the 8 Coil Shakti neural stimulation system) explores the brain's role in enlightenemnt as understood in Buddhism. The talk also looks at the self (or sense of self), and how it's place as a brain function allows it to be flexible enough to change as a person becomes enlightened. It examines a few case histories, including those of Ramana Maharishi, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, The Buddha, and some others.
Murphy's work building upon Persinger's experiments as well as his commercial versions of the Koren Helmet as well as his own variations can be found at http://www.shaktitechnology.com for those with an interest in the spiritual application of neurology and the neurological study of spiritual states.
