The number of children being abandoned shortly after birth in Taiwan is very high of late. Around 38 kids are found each month. This does not include the children who are found dead or the ones who are given up but taken by relatives or the like and under care. Many of the found children are in such bad condition that they eventually die. Most are found in abandoned or deserted areas. Since the recession hit, the number of children abandoned by their parents has begun to escalate. In the past year and a half over six hundred children have been found abandoned.
