Because I am very well known for my work with speed hypnosis (see my DVDs on the subject at http://www.briandavidphillips.net/store as well as much more), I get asked about different types of inductions quite often. Here's my response to a thread on speed hypnosis "quickie" inductions that do not require the use of touch that started on one email list and migrated to others.
Honestly, just elevate their expectancy and then intensify their imaginative involvement and do whatever you want to do. Expectancy inductions do not require touch. Often folks use touch within their inductions but there's nothing to require it. There was a thread on hypnothoughts some time ago about this sort of thing and some inductions I thought of in response are listed at https://briandavidphillips.net/2008/07/hypnosis-withou.html.
Personally, I prefer to touch folks . . . however, given that I do a LOT of hypnosis in Asia, I do come across folks who are less comfortable with it and so being able to adapt one's style is important.
Yes, indeed. The three handshakes induction is one of Elman's expectancy inductions and he was doing variations all over the place. Another of Elman's expectancy inductions that he described in his book is the "three puffs induction" in which he sets it up with a "in a moment I will blow smoke from my cigarette into your face three times. On the third puff, your eyes close and you go into a deep hypnotic state" or the like. He then drags out and puffs into the doctor's face and on the third one, down the guy goes.
Today, I would not recommend a cigarette-based induction of that type, least of all with doctors, as a much higher percentage of folks are not comfortable around or object to smoking and it could set off respiratory problems with others. However, once the principle is seen from the examples, it's not too hard improvise others based upon the environment . . . I've done or seen inductions based upon three shakes, three breaths of air, three blown whispers, three kisses, three caresses, and more. Folks going to the Walkabout Trance Beach Resort Getaway in August – http://www.walkabouttrance.com – will be creating many more and much more.
Take the idea and play with it . . . touch or no touch doesn't really matter, just engage that imagination and off we go.
All the best,
Brian
