Rogerian Hypnosis

This isn't so much a Q&A response as a response to a response to a query on the Hypnosis Technique Exchange (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypnosisTechniqueExchange) regarding whether or not anyone knew of any scripts or processes along the lines of Rogerian Hypnosis.

"There is no such thing as Rogerian Hypnosis. There are no scripts."

While I would agree that Rogerian therapy would not normally include formal hypnosis. However, this does not mean that one could not develop a Rogerian approach to hypnotherapy if one were so inclined. It would have to be inspired by the work and ideas of Carl Rogers rather than directly taken from it, but I don't see why the basic premise could not inform an approach to process-building.

"The Rogerian approach is an attitude, not a technique."

And that attitude could very easily be a driving force behind a hypnotherapeutic process. Personally, I would think the positive insights would be more forthcoming within that context.

As to scripts . . . I would suggest that the original querant look instead for processes rather than one-size-fits-all scripts.

Folks interested in looking into this line of inquiry as to creating a hypnotic process or context by which one might use a Rogerian approach with hypnosis might wish to take a look at Gene Nielson's "Counseling Techniques for the Private Reader: A Treatise for the Psychic Entertainer who does Readings" which takes a look at the work of Carl Rogers and how it can be applied to psychic or intuitive readings.  While going to the source material in reading works by Rogers is the ideal way to go for this stuff, Nielsen has a fairly useful breakdown of principles aimed at folks who therapeutic-like work without being formal therapists per se so the cross-over application is helpful.  Since I do indeed do critical setpoint work in the intuitive, intuitionist, and psychic fields in addition to my hypnosis services, the text was very worthwhile to me and I do reccommend it for others who follow that line.

All the best,
Brian
