Psychics in the Boardroom
. . . intutionism comes of age

What comes around, just keeps comin’ around. Welcome to the
twenty-first century when important business decisions are guided by
psychics. The New York Times just printed a feature on how more businesses are turning to psychics to help them weather the economic downturn.

I realize that the following will offend the sensibilities of some of my readers, please bear with it and breathe deeply and relax around any of the inherent prejudices I might exhibit here or that you might experience in yourself as you read it . . . just for a few moments.  If that’s not possible then just skip this one and move to one of my posts that more suits your worldview, if need be.

Love, Jobs & 401(k)shttp://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/23/fashion/23psychic.html – by Ruth La Ferla (New York Times, November 23, 2008) profiles a number of psychics who have seen their corporate business increase recently.

This should come as no special surprise to any of us.

Regular readers of Life of Brian will recall that I posted a number of months back (on June 28) about a new trend in business of large corporations hiring psychics (aka, intuitionists or intuitives) to give them a one-up on the competition – Intuitionists Go Corporatehttps://briandavidphillips.net/2008/06/10000-a-month-p.html – and the ramifications thereof.  Specifically, I discussed a piece profiling Laura Day written by Tony Dokoupil – The $10,000-a-Month Psychichttp://www.newsweek.com/id/142632
Newsweek, 30 June 2008 (yes, my post about the article is dated before the article is dates; do not assume that’s psychic prediction, rather, it’s a phenomenon of mass media periodical shortdating).

These feature stories in major media publications that are fairly well respected are just the tip of the iceberg.  Recently, there has been quite a tremendous upswing in public acceptance of "psychic" businesses, even while some locales have experienced an opposite swing.

It is a pretty common enough phenomenon that it might as well become a truism that in times of economic or social stress, psychics do more business.  Of course, psychics and priests and shamans and therapists all do more business in such times.  They do all represent the same socio-cultural niche, after all . . . whether they wish to admit it or not.

Of course, the skeptical response of circular reasoning certainly still applies in some cases but if one looks carefully at the formalized academic or scientific response to such matters one can definitely see a circular bias there as well.  A friend of mine, a very well respected psychologist with an academic pedigree that would choke a horse (imaginary, psychic, or otherwise) recently published a paper on bias in journals regarding astrology that demonstrates very convincingly that certain prestigious journals have such an inherent bias against any discussion of astrology that no reputable scholar would risk his reputation on publicly examining the area.  At least one double blind comparative study of psychological testing found that astrology horoscopes (complete profiles, not sloppy sun-sign pablum) were found to be more accurate in character trait analysis than the major personality profiles currently in use – in such light, Carl Jung’s insistence upon drawing up a horoscope for any potential clients or students may make a bit more sense).

Of course, there is indeed a lot of chafe out there that passes for intuitive psychic awareness and certainly some such systems are altogether stuff-and-nonsense.  I know I’ve met some rather self-deluded and sometimes more than a whole lot beyond oddball individuals within the community.  However, I’ve also met some folks who have a lot stronger foundation in sensible thought than some of the so-called scientists and academic critical thinkers and theorists I’ve met.  The trick is to approach all this stuff in the spirit of true scientific inquiry . . . test it to see what works without drawing any foregone conclusions.  Obviously, for some folks who’ve entrenched themselves in the comfortable blanket of dogma, that is awfully hard to do.

However, as we learn more about the macro universe and how it may mirror in many ways the quantum universe, or at least the holographic universe or at least a bit of ordered chaos with genuine synchronicity thrown in for good measure, we discover that at least some of the things our ancestors were grunting and pounding about prior to building cities makes a lot of sense.  It is perhaps no coincidence that many of our oldest archaeological artifacts relate not just to astronomy but to astrological significances.  Some of that ancient knowledge may not just be mere primitive superstition but truths that were discovered and lost again and re-discovered in new forms.

Or not.

Those wishing to play with a new paradigm of such things might consider signing up for the Tarot Intuitive  – http://www.briandavidphillips.com/training/tarotintuitive.html – or, even more appropriately, Psychic Hypnosishttp://www.briandavidphillips.com/training/psychichyp.html – classes coming up (although you really should sign up soon if you want a spot).

Others will note that with this post, I am inaugurating a new category on my blog . . . Intuitionist: Psychic Intuitionism . . . as I really do post a bit on this subject and it does fit some of the work I do, albeit within the new paradigm approach rather than in the traditional conman or airy-fairie varieties of such things.

Do note that I do indeed freely acknowledge that I have a bias in these matters . . . I offer professional services that typically are placed in the realm of the psychic . . . I use the term intuitionist rather than psychic to avoid at least some of the negative connotations associated to the former but then I end up having to spend a fair bit of time explaining whateverintheworld an intuitionist is how is it different from a psychic (there are differences) . . . the services I offer don’t really have much of anything to do with paranormal or supernatural phenomena, they are genuine phenomena based upon sound principles with no hocus pocus or shazam needed to activate them but silly preconceptions abound.

All the best,
Brian
