Agatha Christie in Trance . . .
. . . fugue state and mystery of the mystery queen

The Dorset Echo’s Eric Randolph writes that the Christie Mystery Solved.

One evening in 1926, Agathat Christie kissed her daughter goodnight and then walked out of the house . . . no note, no message, nothing . . . she effectively vanished. Her car was found near a quarry but no sign of her.

She was finally found living in a hotel spa under an assumed name but could not explain her actions.

Most folks chalk it up to amnesia brought about by an accident but Dr Andrew Norman believes it was the psychological state of fugue, a trance-like state, which affect Christie in that she didn’t seem to have any fear at the spa but acted under an assumed identity.

Assuming Christie wasn’t simply trying to diasppear and then got caught, she may have been suicidal or the like at the time and the trance-like state may have been precipitated by the stress and pressure of her mother’s death and he knowledge that her husband had been unfaithful. The pressure on her psyche may have been too much and so she simply "went away" both literally and psychologically.

Obviously, there are far better ways to deal with stress of this type – hypnotherapy for one – but often folks don’t see the forest for all the trees bearing down upon them at the time.  Help is available, but invariably it has to be sought or at least suggested by loved ones or others around a person in need.

All the best,
Brian
