Walkabout Trance . . . arm catalepsy

This is me running a straightforward waking hypnosis arm catalepsy process during a Walkabout Trance event (see the workshops section of this site for information on the event). This effect also known as the "unbendable arm" test.  The guy doing interpretation in the background is Martin Chen, an extremely skilled hypnosit from Taiwan (see his webpages here).

This video is one of the sets from the Walkabout Trance event held in Taipei, Taiwan, on Dec. 18, 2005. The folks from the Taipei Experimental Hypnosis Workshop (see my webpages for workshop information) held an event at the Taipei Zoo Mall in which they approached members of the public in unrehearsed cold walkups to run impromptu trance sessions. These included real instant hypnosis inductions, trance patterns, neurolinguistic programming patterns, and experiential visualizations. The goal of the event was for the hypnotists to practice real-world trance processes within a spontaneous environment as well as an opportunity to provide members of the public with the chance to experience guided focused trance first hand in a playful way. The participants were divided into teams of three and sent out into the public area with the intention of having a certain number of positive (consensual) interactions within the time limit.

I was leading the workshop and running through some possible approaches and effects and was just about to send the participants off to have fun when a number of folks asked if I wouldn’t mind demonstrating just how one approaches a random member of the public, engages them and runs a trance set out of the blue. So . . . I got up and immediately walked to a table with one guy sitting on his lonesome, took out a blank business card and asked if he had a pen I could borrow. Once he gave me the pen to "borrow" I wrote out the preps for a 1-2-3-4 mentalism influence effect and sat my butt down and ran the effect. I have included that opening effect with two variations in a couple of the other videos I am putting online so I won’t describe it here. Once I got his attention and imaginative involvement, it was a simple matter to immediately begin running imagination games and trance effects (even with a crowd of workshop participants lurking all over the place). Some of the folks who do cold walkups in the seduction community reccommend that folks carrry around a bag of magic tricks (Style and Mystery and the like) but I am against gimmicks and peacocking and effects of that sort while being a fan of mentalism or pure psychological effects which don’t require a bunch or stuff to lug about with you).

In any case, the entire event was loads and loads of fun. The folks who were unfamiliar with this sort of stuff gained a lot of experience which in turn amped up their confidence in what they do . . . if you can hypnotize random strangers (the group I was in really emphasized that as we would point out folks as challenges for others to do immediate approaches with) then you know you can do hypnosis with folks who actually ask you to do it.

It was a very successful event and extremely enjoyable for all involved. Participants and members of the public did give permission to use video footage of the walkabout trance sessions. We are very likely to host future events of this type in Taipei. All the best,
Brian
