HD or 3D?

Scott Hettrick asks the question of the next generation video push . . . Next-gen: HD or 3D? . . . my answer, hopefully both but probably more of the HD than the 3D.

Two new DVDs have been released in anaglyphic 3D this month (a Barbie adventure and Sharkboy) but they still exhibit problems that anaglyphic presentation has always had (most folks don’t compensate very well for it and superior anachrome type systems are more often the exception than the norm).

There is a lot of action in the 3D front . . . my dream is that it will continue to expand (hopefully we will see a real mass market fully functional 3D digital camera within five years, one of my little pipedreams, and the sooner the better).

HD is locked in but 3D still has some pushing to make it into the envelope. Possible, but still not certain. Obviously, once the hurdles are passed it will become the standard . . . if not the next gen, then the one following. 3D is on the way and it will be the standard display format in HD but the question becomes who gets to saturate and dominate the market first and how well will their system do the job?
