Filmmakers Lucas, Cameron tout new 3D films

While in essence, this piece about Filmmakers Lucas, Cameron tout new 3D films is true to the idea of the upcoming 3D film revolution . . . there are some inaccuracies . . . the original 3D film wave was NOT anaglyph (the red-blue glasses that have such intense problems with retinal rivalry, color loss, and headaches), they were poloarized with clear glasses. It wasn’t until many of those films were being converted for television display (where poloarization does NOT work) that they were switched to anaglyph and then theatres begain using the damned process instead of buying more expensive, more reliable, and higher quality polarized systems.

The tout is inconsistent as some stories about the upcoming wave from Lucas, Cameron, Rodriquez, and Jackson will be polarized digital solutions and others way it will remain anaglyph.

I vote for polarized.

At only US$4.5 million per movie for In-Three’s Dimensionalization process to convert a 2D feature into full 3D, it will be worth it for many of the large budget films – especially the special effects heavy pieces where immersive action is such a selling point – to go through the process for new home system display (hopefully superior anaglyph like anachrome or true quality poloarized systems) or theatrical re-release (while the Lucas, etc. revolution is being pushed for digital theatres, the Anachrome folks have developed an inexpensive system for converting film theatres for display of the new titles as well in both poloarized and anaglyphic variations).
