Journal of Interactive Drama

Well, it’s now open for business . . . the Journal of Interactive Drama is now a real deal and ready to go!

This is an online peer-reviewed journal on scenario-based theatre style interactive drama freeform live action roleplaying games. I’ve been working behind the scenes for a while getting things together. We’re still recruiting members for the editorial board but things look good so far.

This is a cummnuty where folks can discuss issues related to interactive drama and scenario based learning in terms of scenario design as well as everything else from sociological constructs to educational application of gaming. The journal will also have scenarios with designer notes. This community is aimed at academics interested in gaming as a phenomenon as well as gamers intersted in critical discussion of gaming as well as educators adapting gaming to the classroom as well as plain ol’ gamers . . . the hope is to create a multi-disciplinary community with interactive drama as the common interest that allows us to find new insights and discover new understandings by learning from one another. It is both an a formal critical exercise and an effort in community building that extends from what is already out there.

The journal is an off-shoot of my work with the online interactive drama scenario archive which I’ve organized and webmastered since 1996. I am also the executive director of the Taipei Interactive Theatre Society if any of our readers are in Taipei and would like to join in on some live action costume roleplaying games.
