Today’s Lesson for College Students: Lighten Up

Sara Rimer has an excellent article at the New York Times . . . Today’s Lesson for College Students: Lighten Up.

A number of the points are right on the head of the nail.

I am reminded of one of the comments made by one of my professors when I was a student . . . John Khanjian, then Chair of the Religion Department at Kansas Wesleyan University, who I felt honored to study under . . . he said that he would much prefer to have a student who fared okay in classes but was involved in other things outside of class than to have a student who excelled in coursework but didn’t have any other activities or social events in university . . . school isn’t just about learning from books, it’s also about learning about life . . . and one valuable life lesson is learning to relax.

Lighten up, take it easy, go have some fun.

Taking a break and going to a party or seeing a movie is going to do you a lot more good than pounding your head against the books trying to cram the night before a test. Study well . . . not hard . . . learn well . . . enjoy life and the challenges that come with it.
